A. T. Panter, Ph.D.

Dr. Panter is an Associate Professor in the L. L. Thurstone Psychometric Laboratory in the Department of Psychology at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and a Senior Technical Consultant to The Measurement Group LLC.


Abigail T. Panter, Ph.D. [University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; The Measurement Group] (1989, New York University) is a quantitative methodologist with research interests in measurement and test theory, multivariate data modeling, program evaluation design, individual differences (especially personality), and applied problems such as HIV/AIDS and nicotine dependence in adolescents.  

She is an Associate Professor of psychology in the L. L. Thurstone Psychometric Laboratory at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. She is also a Senior Technical Consultant at The Measurement Group, where she has been extensively involved in The Measurement Group’s multisite evaluation centers. She has specialized in work with projects that provide technical assistance and/or health education/training to health care providers. Dr. Panter also regularly consults with federal agencies on grant review, is a regular member of NIMH’s grant panel on Risk, Prevention, and Health Behavior (RPHB-4), and serves on numerous national committees and editorial boards in the area of social/personality psychology and quantitative methods.

At the University of North Carolina, Dr. Panter has received several university-wide awards for her innovative approaches to teaching statistics and quantitative methodology to undergraduate and graduate students. She teaches graduate courses on structural equation modeling, regression methods (second semester of the department doctoral requirement), exploratory factor analysis, and professional responsibility for quantitative psychologists. At the undergraduate level, she teaches a first-year seminar called "Talking About Numbers," statistics, and advanced research methods. She is also involved with the University's Committee on the Status of Women and the Carolina Women's Center.
