Program Contributions

Programs were conducted by 27 grantees funded initially in October 1994. The data used in this Knowledge Base were, in most cases, collected by grantee staff, and were used for both local evaluations and the national cross-cutting evaluation. Supplemental interview data for outcome studies were collected by the Evaluation and Dissemination Center [The Measurement Group].

Between January 1995 and September 1999 when the projects ended, the Cooperative Agreement Steering Committee met approximately every three-four months to review progress in the cross-cutting evaluation data collection and review findings. Most of the 27 projects (23) were funded for the full five years; two projects ended after two years as planned, one project ended after three years as planned, and one project ended after four years after a one-year extension. In all cases, the individual shown as the member of the Steering Committee was the designated representation from the project during the last year it was active; in many cases, the same person served as the Steering Committee Representative during all years. Trudy A. Larson, M.D., was the Chair of the Steering Committee from its inception in January 1995 through its dissolution in September 1999. Dr. Larson, Dr. George J. Huba (the Director of the Evaluation and Dissemination Center), and a representative from the Health Resources and Services Administration (the funding source) served as the Executive Committee of the Steering Committee between 1995 and 1999.
