Test-Retest Reliability for Client CES-D Score

Test-retest correlations were calculated for periods up to several years for the 8-item version of the CES-D. At a lag of about six months, the test-retest correlation is .43. For a period of about a year, the estimate is .44. Since this is an affect scale, temporal reliability tends not to be as high as other characteristics that might be considered less subject to day-to-day variation (such as health status).

The 8-item version of the Center for Epidemiology Studies Depression Scale demonstrates evidence of reliability over periods of more than a year.
