Staff Characteristics at Three Projects

Out of 65 staff (for whom detailed data are available) from three Cooperative Agreement Projects that focus on providing services, 33.8 percent were Caucasian, 56.9 percent were African American, and 7.7 percent were Hispanic. 27.7 percent of staff participated in one hundred or more hours of HIV/AIDS education/trainings in the last three years. A substantial number were case managers (38.5 percent), educators (37.7 percent), chemical dependency counselors (27.7 percent), and other counselors (33.8 percent). A significant percentage of the staff in these projects were generally representative of the populations of clients they served; these projects should be viewed within the context that they tended to recruit and retain staff who were familiar with and sensitive to cultural issues for the types of clients served.
