Hartford Geriatric Nursing Initiative
 About HGNI

The John A. Hartford Foundation, located in New York City, is a private philanthropy established in 1929 by John A. Hartford, who was a chief executive of the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company.

The Foundation, established to provide the greatest good for the greatest number of people, currently has more than $630 million in assets, over $20 million of which is used annually to fund its grants program.

Nearly all of the Foundation's grants are directed to its Aging and Health Program, which addresses two major areas:

 Academic Geriatrics and Training

 Improving Services for Elders

The John A. Hartford Foundation Geriatric Nursing Initiative funds programs designed to increase the supply of geriatric nurses and the quality of care they provide by enhancing geriatric nursing training programs that produce the leaders of tomorrow. This web site was developed by the independent evaluator of the Hartford Geriatric Nursing Initiative, The Measurement Group. This web site highlights the programs of the Initiative and provides links to other web sites supported by the Initiative. The web site also presents emerging evaluation results that show the outcomes and impact of these programs.
