Conference Abstract

Changing Nutrition Needs in HIV. B Scott, T Larson. University of Nevada School of Medicine.

90 Minute Workshop

Category: Care & Services

Presentation Date & Time: 03/26/98 13:45:00

Past emphasis on nutrition in HIV disease has been primarily to address weight loss and wasting. The connection between weight loss, decrease in strength, and fatigability with advancing HIV disease and immune deficiency suggested that early nutrition intervention might change or modify this course. The University of Nevada School of Medicine has established a new model of early nutrition intervention in HIV with evaluation of multiple physical, nutritional and laboratory values. Findings from this study and a recent client satisfaction survey have highlighted the interest and enthusiasm displayed by clients and the need for highly individualized services based on changing health status and personal needs.
