Metro DC Collaborative for Women with HIV/AIDS–an Infrastructure Change Model for Improving the Delivery of Services for Women with HIV
Belinda Rochelle, Jennifer Smith, Edna A. Viruell, M.P.H., Leslie R. Wolfe, Ph.D. This paper will present findings from action research carried out during the first two years' implementation and process evaluation of a national demonstration project designed to ameliorate organizational barriers to care for HIV-infected women. Two of the four key components of the model are: 1) nurturing HIV-positive women's leadership in the policy arena and building a cadre of HIV-positive women who are policy advocates and influencers; 2) educating policy makers about the needs of HIV-positive women. In particular, we will report on the results of provider needs assessments and focus groups and in-depth interviews with diverse groups of women with HIV - Latinas, African American, and white women in the metropolitan DC area.
