Metro DC Collaborative for Women with HIV–Reduction of Organizational
Barriers to Care for HIV-Infected Women
Leslie R. Wolfe, Ph.D., Belinda Rochelle,
Edna Viruell, M.P.H., Jennifer Smith. The Center for Women Policy Studies (CWPS), in
collaboration with PROTOTYPES, A Center for Innovation in Health, Mental Health and Social
Services, has developed a model for organizational collaboration and policy development to
reduce cultural, linguistic, and organizational barriers to care for HIV infected women
who are underserved and experiencing significant barriers to care. This innovative project
addresses access to care issues through a comprehensive assessment of barriers, capacity
building within the HIV care system and securing the inclusion of HIV infected women in
policy development. The CWPS collaborative project is a cooperative agreement funded by
the Health Resources and Services Administration, Special Projects of National
Significance HIV Service Delivery Models Initiative. Requirements of the cooperative
agreement include a rigorous local and multi-site evaluation. Presenters will address the
development of the Metro DC Collaborative for Women, strategies to foster collaboration
between clients (HIV infected women) and providers to inform policy development and
approaches to incorporating national multi-site evaluation to components into a local
project.
