Presentation Abstract

Missouri Integrated Care Program for Individuals with HIV/AIDS, Mental Illness, and/or Substance Abuse Problems. J. Dempsey.

Currently, a federal demonstration project funded through the Special Projects of National Significance Program of the Health Resources and Services Administration is being implemented at the Missouri Department of Health. This project, The Missouri Integrated Care Program, is a collaborative effort between the Missouri Department of Health, the Missouri Department of Mental Health, and three advisory committees in the following target areas: Kansas City, St. Louis, and rural Missouri. The advisory committees consist of professionals from each respective target area with expertise in health, mental health, and alcohol and drug abuse services. The Missouri Integrated Care Program is designed to offer comprehensive services to poly-diagnosed individuals with HIV/AIDS and mental illness, and/or substance abuse issues. The main objective for this project is to help direct service staff in each of the target areas to work together in a more effective and collaborative manner. A description of the three different implementation models in each target area is discussed. Additionally, various collaborative efforts between the Department of Mental Health, Department of Health, community mental health agencies, and barriers that were addressed to establish the implementation models are discussed.
