Introduction

Welcome to SPNS/Fax: An Electronic Report from HRSA/HAB's SPNS Cooperative Agreements. In each issue of SPNS/Fax, we will highlight findings from the HRSA Special Projects of National Significance Program Cooperative Agreements. The projects have been funded to develop innovative models of HIV/AIDS care. SPNS/Fax reports are distributed every two weeks by fax machine to all subscribers. All issues of SPNS/Fax are also available at this Web site. Due to slight differences in the media, issues distributed by fax machine may appear slightly different from those posted on this Web site, but the content is identical.

Searchable Online Knowledge Base Now Available for Information about 27 Innovative Models of HIV Care

A computerized Knowledge Base is now available on the Internet featuring findings from HRSA/HAB's SPNS Cooperative Agreements. This online Knowledge Base was developed by The Measurement Group as a method of rapidly disseminating results from the Cooperative Agreement Projects to diverse audiences in a user-friendly format.

What is the Knowledge Base on HIV/AIDS Care? The Knowledge Base is a "database of findings," including those related to client/patient care, training on HIV/AIDS for service providers, and systems change affected by Cooperative Agreement Projects in their respective communities. The Knowledge Base is comprised of many interrelated Knowledge Items, which are concise, non-technical statements of results from the Cooperative Agreement Projects. More technical information in support of the Knowledge Item is easily accessible with the click of a mouse: The Knowledge Base is a "database of findings," including those related to client/patient care, training on HIV/AIDS for service providers, and systems change affected by Cooperative Agreement Projects in their respective communities. The Knowledge Base is comprised of many interrelated Knowledge Items, which are concise, non-technical statements of results from the Cooperative Agreement Projects. More technical information in support of the Knowledge Item is easily accessible with the click of a mouse:

  • Data Source. How was the data obtained that contributed to the Knowledge Item? The Data Source page provides a description and provides hyperlinks to more information about the measure, index, or instrument used.
  • Model Programs. Which of the Cooperative Agreement Projects contributed data to the Knowledge Item? The Model Programs page provides hyperlinks to information about each of the grantees that contributed to the Knowledge Item. Descriptions of each program are available.
  • Extended Results. What if you want to learn more details about the information presented in a Knowledge Item? The Extended Results page provides an elaboration of the findings summarized in the Knowledge Item.
  • Additional Statistics. For those interested in seeing specific statistical or qualitative support for a Knowledge Item, the Additional Statistics page provides detailed analyses used to arrive at the conclusions stated in the Knowledge Item.
  • Related Information. Want to learn more about a particular topic? The Related Information page links you to other Knowledge Items of interest.

Specific Examples of Knowledge Items. The Knowledge Base is continually updated with new items, and as data are available, the additional information and analyses become more definitive. Following are some examples of Knowledge Items currently available in the Knowledge Base.1
