How the Training Affected Large-Scale Changes

In a cross-cutting telephone study of 218 service providers who were interviewed an average of eight months after HIV/AIDS training, trainees were asked to provide specific information about how the training session(s) may have led to large-scale policy and/or attitude changes.

Seven dominant themes emerged from these responses: (1) More Knowledgeable and Able to Provide Sensitive Care; (2) Implemented Substantial Policy Change; (3) Heightened Awareness; (4) Provided a Framework for Discussion; (5) Implemented (or In the Process of Implementing) Smaller Policy and Procedural Change; (6) Change in Attitudes and Beliefs; and (7) No Effect.

Trainee characteristics (mainly project site) predicted the types of examples offered by trainees, but did not predict training effectiveness ratings for this domain.
