Standardized Focus Group: Final Draft of February 12, 1996


 
Main Purpose The purpose of this module is to have a standardized way of asking information in focus groups. These methods are not formal standards and will have to be adapted for different kinds of focus groups. The materials are offered as models upon which to build local materials that obtain maximally useful information in the focus groups. The Measurement Group will work with individual sites on adapting these materials for local purposes as requested.
Description
  • Adapted from procedures and materials used by The Measurement Group in more than 200 focus groups on social and medical services. Materials and procedures have been used both with consumers and providers throughout California.
  • Designed for focus groups that last between 90 and 180 minutes.
Target Projects for Form
  • Any project documenting service issues, barriers, client satisfaction, provider satisfaction. Suggested for most projects on an annual basis to supplement quantitative assessments.
Major Evaluation Function
  • Characterize history and experiences of project clients and/or service providers.
  • Obtain context for quantitative results.
  • Obtain information not easily obtained in quantitative form through surveys or service records.
