Module 49

Staff Characteristics Form: Final Draft of January 10, 1996

Main Purpose The purpose of this module is to record characteristics of staff service providers. It is assumed that each staff member has an unique identifier that is coded on services forms.
Description
  • The form collects major demographics characteristics of the individual who provides services. For the purpose of this Cooperative Agreement, service providers would be defined as any individual who provides direct services to treatment or prevention clients, client agencies (through presentations), or individuals trained.
Target Projects for Form
  • ALL.
  • This evaluation tool would be maximally useful if all projects code this information from all staff.
Major Evaluation Function
  • This information permits a comparison of levels of services provided and service effectiveness when there is, or is not, a congruence in basic demographic characteristics, training, and other factors between the individuals providing the services and the individuals receiving the services.
  • Congruence between clients and providers and the effectiveness of services is an important meta-issue that is best addressed by pooled multi-site data because greater heterogeneity of clients and providers is achieved through multiple sites.
  • Staff characteristics may also have an important, "main effect" on program effectiveness.
Comments
  • This information should be collected anonymously from staff members who mail their questionnaires directly to the Evaluation and Dissemination Center who will not be able to link names and staff codes. Informed consent from staff members should be obtained and participation should be voluntary.
  • Because of the sensitivity of this information and the fact that individual staff may be identifiable in the small number of staff in their agency, data summaries linking these characteristics should be done only on pooled data where specific steps are taken to insure that staff cannot be identified.
  • Module is adapted from Module 56 (Trainer Characteristics).
Implementation
  • Module 49 Current Version (dated 1/10/96) Activation Number: 40898.
